liver recipeThe Liver has to be my favourite organ, its responsible for so many functions and in today’s lifestyle it is under serious assault!

So why should you love your liver? Because its responsible for breaking down hormones, fats & toxins in your body, it cleans your circulating blood, it stores glycogen, vitamins & minerals. It transforms proteins needed for repair & blood clotting….what a multi-tasker!

So how do you know if your liver is struggling? Well lets look at some of the symptoms; poor skin conditions, hormonal imbalances, chronic constipation, aches & pains in your back, fatigue, irritability, weight gain, allergies, fluid retention, high blood pressure, headaches & insomnia to name a few. So how do you look after your liver? Take a look below for my four top tips!

Hydrate: Water is key here. Drink plenty of it (around two liters a day) as it will help flush out the toxins in your body by softening your stools to keep your bowels moving. It will also help flush toxins through your kidneys.

Make sure its the purest form you can find, you may want to invest in a water filter at home its well worth the money!

Keep it Natural: Avoid processed foods that are high in fats & sugars. There are next to no nutrients left in these foods & are what I call dead food. Instead try to eat things raw as nature intended. Embrace a rainbow diet; one that is full of all sorts of colourful vegetables and fruits, particularly dark green leafy vegetables & aim for high antioxidant foods such as yellow, orange, red, purple fruits & veg!! Try and make your diet 40% raw foods.

Fibre Fibre Fibre: You’ve got to keep your bowels moving aiming for at least once a day. If you are not then you are most likely constipated with all that excess waste sitting in your bowel leaking toxins back into your blood stream, where it could be manifesting itself as a skin issue as those toxins try and make there way out of your body!

Whole grains, fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds are great sources of fibre and don’t forget plenty of fluid will help keep them moving!!

Avoid alcohol, smoking & recreational drugs: These are incredible damaging to the liver. Also ease up on the meat intake if your diet is high in animal proteins instead try legumes or tofu as an alternative to meat.
